Cool Band Alert!!
Everyone needs to know about Self. I’ve been a avid supporter for quite a while, but it’s been hard since it hasn’t released anything in a few years. You probably don’t know it, but you’ve already heard a derivative of Self on TV. Everytime you hear an Expedia commercial, that’s Mahaffey’s jingle at the end. If you know his voice, it’s instantly identifiable by his somewhat high-pitched voice. “EXPEDIA!!! Dot cooooooommmmmmm!“. Self also has a song on the Shrek soundtrack, definitely worth checking out.
Self has been around for quite a while. I saw it two times in a month at the now defunct Trax in Charlottesville, VA. Although only playing to a crowd of 20 people tops, Self played as if Trax was packed to the ceiling – something that’s very hard to do. (If you’ve played in a band in front of a crowd, you know how hard it is to get your energy up for a dismal crowd.) Self has four full length CDs, Subliminal Plastic Motives, Half Baked Serenade, breakthrough album Breakfast With Girls, and even an album played completely with children’s toys Gizmodgery. There are also some Internet only B-Side releases that you can download, and some new B-Sides that are awesome, to hear them, click on the audio controls dot (the one at the top of the fingerprint). Enjoy!
