Revelation: Blogger is Terrible
I have been dragging my feet when it comes to re-styling my website. All the main links are outdated: the pictures link goes to 2006, I have movie and music reviews that I never do anymore, the interactive posts are no longer interactive, the guestbook is busted and the search link just goes to google.com. I have wanted to create a more dynamic sidebar, but didn’t have the room, so I created another page called “dynamic”, which from my site stats, I can tell that no one goes to, or even knew existed. On top of that, my template is horrendous, the font is not standard, and the comments are impossible to read or follow. Basically the site is a hodgepodge of code snippets that I steal from other sites and hack/adapt to make mine.
It’s time I ditched the blogging tool that I’ve been using, and pretty much made blogging accessible for the masses. I have been using Blogger for about four years now, and I can tell you from experience, it is not the most stable system. According to Pingdom, Blogger.com is very unreliable. My new platform of choice, which I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get around to converting to, will be WordPress. It has everything that Blogger is aspiring to be, and in a much slicker package to boot. It has categories/labels, comments RSS, ability to add pages (the whole reason why I bought hosting space), customizable widgets, blogroll management, built in search, and a slew of nice pre-configured templates to choose from. My site will still be at jeffchin.com so all 6 of you readers, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to find me. The RSS feed might change though, but I will definitely let everyone know.
