Welcome to the new jeffchin.com v3.0

with one comment

My site was long overdue for a redesign. I have been disappointed with the layout and ease of updating my website when using Blogger, so I decided to look around for a new blogging platform. Many of the sites that I read use WordPress, so I set up a test blog and tried out some of the features. And what do you know, I enjoy blogging with WordPress more than with Blogger. I managed to import all 291 of my posts from my blogger account. The links ported over the exact same as before (as far as I know), so that saved a ton of potential work.

The first thing that you’ll notice is that the new layout has three columns. In the first column is the blog portion. The second column has navigation, dynamically changing links from my Digg and del.icio.us account, and a list of the categories that I tag each post with. One thing to note is that below each post are “global tags” which links to all WordPress blogs with that same tag, and in my sidebar are my personal tags. So if you want to read a whole string of posts about the same category, use those links ;) . In the third column I’ve finally added a blogroll of my friend’s sites, links to sites that I frequent, and lastly I have recent comments, top posts, outgoing links and a calendar.

This new layout is much easier to read, and also gives you guys a reason to come back more often, because of the dynamically changing content in the second column. If you read my site in a feeds reader, I am re-using the same feed address from Feedburner so you won’t even miss a beat. That feed address is still http://feeds.feedburner.com/jchin. If you’re reading this through your aggregator, come and check out the new and improved site.

Update: I’ve taken screencaps from Way Back Machine of some of the old versions…some of the images weren’t saved, so you’ll just have to imagine how horrific it was. Pictures below the jump…
