A Whole New Level of Transparency

Posted in industry by jeff chin on April 20th, 2007

The thing for companies to do these days is to be transparent and open with their thoughts to the public in blogs, forums and open discussions, but Justin.tv takes that idea to a whole new level. If you haven’t heard of it, justin.tv is a website that streams audio and video from a video camera attached to Justin’s hat (almost) 24/7 wherever he goes (a more thorough explanation on Techcrunch). He used to have his telephone number available to call him, but someone pulled a pretty wicked prank on him, so he’s since removed it. As of this post, he’s been streaming his life live for almost 32 days now. This guy is pretty clever, and has even sold banner ads (literally banners hanging on his walls) in his own apartment, which are frequently on camera when he’s hanging around his house. He has been interviewed by Yahoo and others in the industry but for the most part he’s not doing that much. I tuned in randomly tonight right when he was walking into a Digg party in SF at 8pm PST. Kinda cool to see what was going on for a few moments, but it’s not like a TV show you can sit down and watch for an hour. Check it out if you’re interested before he gets tired of wearing a backpack full of equipment everywhere.
